West Kalimantan is a T shaped Province bordering the Malaysian north of Borneo as well as the southern province and the Java sea. There is much in the area where you will find flatlands, mangroves and mountains which form the border. There are over 100 rivers in the province which are all used for transport in the traditional way with traditional bats often with the simple adaptation of the outboard motor. West Kalimantan Places of Interest include a number of nature reserves as well a great deal of colonial and Sultanate museums and areas as well as the influence of the Chinese and the Malays as well as the Javanese, the Bugis and the Madurese. In terms of West Kalimantan Places of Interest the capital of Pontianak is definitely worth a look with a selection of the cross section of architecture of West Kalimantan including the Sultan's Palace located in Kampung Dalam close to the state museum. The floating market is a novel and enjoyable place to visit where you will be able to shop for a number of different local foods as well as interesting items all for very low prices. There is as well the modern recreational facility of the Tirta Ria and the beach resort of Kijing and the beautiful Ternajoh Island which is ideal for relaxing and taking some time out.

Batang is one of the best West Kalimantan Places of Interest for seeing a local village; here you will find the longhouses of the Dayak community in their full traditional glory. Located on the outskirts of Pontianak there is a particular long house which is over 186m long by only 6m wide and s home to around 270 people. There are of course plenty of places where you can see traditional Dayak long houses but none with so much impact as the one at Batang. There is very little in the way of tourist facilities in this area and no accommodation unless you can convince the locals to squeeze you in at one end of their longhouse.

The National Parks and Nature Reserves of West Kalimantan include the Gunung Palung National Park in the Ketapang Regency where you will find a huge range of tropical biodiversity in flora and fauna. With 90000ha the Raya Pasi Mountain is located in the Singkawang regency where you will be able to see the Rafflesia. This entire beautiful mountain range is covered by forests and jungle with valleys and river making this truly a place of natural beauty. Of course the Orangutans area present in one of the densest populations of all of Indonesia as well as the island of Borneo. West Kalimantan Places of Interest are diverse and interesting as well as beautiful and although the area does not have the numbers of tourists that the rest of the island has, it has so much to offer those who do come.
